People when forced with packing up and moving for what ever reason will at times want to sell off a lot of their
belonging simply because they haven’t been used in years and are tired of packing and moving stuff they never use. The items have not been
used and will just be stored again in their new home, so it is easier to have a moving sale, make a few dollars and have less to pack.
This type of sale is usually advertised as such and you can plan accordingly. My method of planning depends on a lot of factors, The neighborhood of the sale,
the number of available yard sales that particular day and most important the type of vehicle I have available that day. Moving sales in general will
produce a lot of items for resale if you can get there early and I emphasize early. A lot of people like to attend a moving sale. I have bought more
at times than my vehicle would hold and I would have to spend the rest of the day attending to getting the items home.
Another type of yard sale is one I dearly love to find but it takes a lot of planning months in advance to set up for. There are some towns that have
zoning laws that prevent having yard sales except certain times of the year or a
block association will work to having one large community yard sale at one time a couple of times a year. At this type of yard sale I can spend the
entire day in one area and not have to drive or worry about the time. You can not look at everything at a sale if you do you will only
cover one or two sales a day. I have covered up to thirty sales in one day and I know I missed some items but I did find a lot items to resale and I
also found one or two real treasures.
Time is your enemy and you have to learn how to manage that time to be efficient and more important to be safe when traveling in your car. Never get
in a hurry to get to the next sale and drive unsafe. Remember this is an activity to enjoy not to turn into a business or an activity that turns into
a pressure situation.
There is another type of sale that needs to be mentioned in this section and that is roadside sales. Some people live in apartments, out in the country
or just don’t want to have a sale around their homes so they will load up and find a wide spot beside of a local highway. You will find the same types
of items as the yard sale and in some cases there will be several of these sales in one place. This type of sale is also used by the occasional flea
market person also.
The one thing I dislike about this type of sale is the parking available. If I see one of these sales and the parking is limited then
I will not stop. The sales are usually setup alone one of the local highways that has a
high traffic flow and can be dangerous if adequate parking is not available.
That is all I am going to say about yard sales I am sure there will be thoughts later on that should have been placed in this section,
but I have covered the basics of yard selling as I see them. Remember the most important part of yard selling is the enjoyment we get out of our hobby.
